About Us

Speedworks began as a collector's obsession.

I developed my passion for automobile racing and collecting diecast cars from my Father, who began bringing me to SCCA Trans-Am and Can-Am races when I was only 3 years old. I was even featured on a local television special on car racing where I was shown clinging to the top of a fence in my rain slicker watching the action at Donnybrooke in 1969. Following in my Father's footsteps, I collected diecast race cars throughout the years but really became an avid collector in the mid 1990's. As my collection grew, our bank account began to shrink and my purchasing came to a screeching halt. Without the resources to pursue my passion for collecting, I needed a plan. Thus, on April 7, 1999, Speedworks was registered with the State of Minnesota and as a typical small business...began operation in the basement of our family home.

My business plan at the time was to buy and sell a few diecast cars to help pay for my collection. I began attending a few of the larger toy and collectible shows in the Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN area and quickly developed a talent for buying and selling diecast cars. As sales began to increase, my business plan began to change. By expanding, I believed that I could pay the costs of attending a car race or two every year so I began traveling to several out of state toy shows to grow the business. Now, with "out of state" customers, the mail order side of Speedworks was created. Catalogs were developed but the cost of printing and mailing soon exceeded my little advertising budget and the return on investment was minimal. I needed a more profitable avenue of advertising.

With inventory boxes filling our basement, laundry folding tables converted into shipment packaging tables, delivery trucks jockeying for position in our driveway, incoming and outgoing packages filling the kitchen on a daily basis, it is needless to say that my wife Kim had seen enough. Her exact words were, "You're getting a web site right now and I want all this stuff out of my house!"

On June 16, 2002, appropriately on Father’s Day, Speedworksdiecast.com was launched. On July 22, 2002, we received our first online order; a 2002 Rusty Wallace Miller Lite/Harley Davidson 1:24 diecast car.

On October 3, 2005, Speedworks was approved as an Authorized Motorsports Authentics Dealer and on December 13, 2007, Speedworks was approved as a NASCAR Preferred Dealer. Since our inception, Speedworks' objective has been to provide our customers with unparalleled customer service, competitive pricing and to be your Ultimate Source for officially licensed NASCAR diecast collectible cars from the motorsports industries leading manufacturers.

In October of 2011, we partnered with a fulfillment center in North Carolina in an effort to better serve our customers. This partnership will allow us ship items to our customers in a more efficient time frame and allow us to grow and expand our website into selling other NASCAR related merchandise.
