Product Description
A tough no nonsense competitor, Cale Yarborough earned the respect of both fans and fellow drivers during his championship career. Driving the Wood Brothers Mercury Cyclone, Cale dominated the competition during the 1968 season with six wins and twelve top 5 finishes. In only 20 starts behind the wheel of the famous red and white #21 Wood Brothers car that year, Yarborough took the checkered flag at some of the most prestigious events...including the Daytona 500, Atlanta 500, Virginia 500, Firecreacker 100 and the Southern 500.
In a career that spanned thirty-one years, Yarborough scored 83 wins placing him 5th overall on NASCAR's all time winners's list. Cale is one of only two drivers in NASCAR's history to win three consecutive championships...in 1976, '77 and '78.
On February 25, 1968, Cale Yarborough won the 1968 Daytona 500 driving the Wood Brothers number 21 1968 Mercury Cyclone. Yarborouygh claimed victory over LeeRoy Yarbrough by less than a second. This win was Yarborough's first victory of the season. His win also brought the Wood Brothers their second Daytona victory.
The memory of this incredible victory will live forever with the sixth release in the University of Racing Legends Series of diecast cars. Preorder these for December 2011 delivery.
